Malebranche, Nicolas de
► (1638-1715) Filósofo francés. Postuló la imposibilidad de comunicar el cuerpo y el alma como no sea a través de Dios, que es como el hombre conoce las cosas. Elaboró la que se considera la primera teoría moderna de los colores. Escribió La búsqueda de la verdad y Conversaciones sobre la metafísica y la religión.

Sacerdote, teólogo y filósofo francés. Su filosofía es un intento de conciliar el cartesianismo con el pensamiento de san Augustín y el neoplatonismo. Ocupa un lugar central en la metafísica de Malebranche su doctrina del ocasionalismo, conforme a la cual aquello que es comúnmente llamado "causa no es más que una "ocasión sobre la que actúa Dios para producir efectos. Su obra principal es Búsqueda de la Verdad (3 vol., 1674–75).
